Abstract
Introduction
We are currently experiencing a new paradigm in healthcare, that of shared decision-making, where the person becomes an active partner in care. Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world, and in the case of laryngeal cancer after total laryngectomy, functions such as breathing and verbal communication are compromised, which is why the concept of Nurse Navigator has emerged, in favour of promoting person-centred care.
Objective
Mapping the Nurse Navigator's competences; in promoting person-centered care, with the aim of improving the quality of care and the person's satisfaction.
Methods
Scoping Review carried out using the JBI methodology, following the PCC version (Population; Concept; Context). The research was carried out using databases such as MEDLINE and CINAHL Complete, through EBSCOhost. Grey literature: Google Schoolar. The publication period was between 2019 and 2024.
Results
A total of 568 articles were identified, of which 72 duplicates were removed and 470 excluded based on the eligibility criteria, after reading the title and abstract. Twenty-six articles were selected for full reading, and 10 articles and 5 articles from grey literature were included, using the same criteria, giving a total of 15 articles for analysis. The Nurse Navigator coordinates continuous care, promotes therapeutic education, facilitates shared decision-making and is considered the point person between the team, the family and the person. Focused on person-centred care, they boost the person's self-confidence and autonomy, identifying personal and system barriers and facilitating the journey from diagnosis to end-of-life care.
Conclusion
This advanced practice nurse, in developing these competences, enhances the provision of holistic care, where the person is an active partner in the decision-making process and in care, contributing to an increase in their self-confidence, boosting an improvement in quality of life and achieving health gains.
