Abstract
Introduction
Students' participation in research projects influences their professional development.1,2 It allows for the acquisition of knowledge and development of skills, the establishment of new attitudes that foster a research culture, and behavioral changes that enhance knowledge translation into care practices.1 Participation in research projects promotes positive attitudes towards research, facilitating an understanding of the importance of research for professional nursing practice.3
Objective
To analyze the contribution of research initiation programs promoted by the id.Care project in developing skills among students of the Nursing Degree Program (NDP).
Methods
The id.Care project developed research initiation programs aimed at students in the Nursing Degree Program (NDP) in their final year of study between 2022 and 2024 (22-40 hours). These programs involve training in secondary research methodologies and the facilitation of the Ideas Lab (Id(eas).Lab), utilizing design thinking to enhance the development of the monographic work. The initiative includes collaboration with a higher education institution in computer engineering, where their graduating students and NDP students co-create innovative solutions for identified problems explored through systematic literature reviews. The experience is evaluated through focus groups. The Ethics Committee has approved the study (ref.nr. 2959/2023). Successful completion of these programs is recorded as a diploma supplement.
Results
A total of 47 NDP students participated. Several nursing problems were identified, leading to systematic reviews that informed the students' theses and allowed for the development of innovative solutions. The prototype ideas were presented at scientific events, and some ideas are currently in the prototyping phase. Students perceive this experience as fostering the development of skills in translating scientific knowledge.
Conclusion
Participation in the research initiation programs of the id.Care project facilitated skill development among NDP students.
